250 London ladies came together on a cold November night to start taking control of their financial lives.

Want to relive all the best moments from the event? Here is your recap.

November was a busy month in the Finimize office. We spoke to hundreds of women in the global Finimize Community to find out how we can empower more women to invest. On Tuesday Nov 20th, we launched that report in front of 250 Finimizers at our Female Financial Dialogue #Finimized event in London.

Blooming founders, a London female founder community and coworking space, was the perfect spot for the first leg of The Female Financial Dialogue event series #ffdf (L.A next stop). Our all female panel included Eileen Burbidge, Partner at Passion Capital, Sarah Pennells, founder, SavvyWoman.co.uk and Radha Vyas, CEO of Flash Pack. It was great to see a full house taking control of their financial lives.

It’s known that women are better investors than men. What puzzles us is that women still lack the confidence to invest. Every article in the media kept telling us the same sad story. Rather than celebrating women as being better, they focused on the fact that women are cautious and boring in their investing approach.

The women we spoke to during our research and on the panel paint a very different picture to what the media writes about. These women take calculated risks and are in control of their finances.

The big reveal.

So what did we learn from speaking to you?

From our research, 40% of you said that not having enough knowledge was the biggest factor stopping you from investing. There is a need for continued education but also for a shift in tone from the industry.

64% of you said you want to have a say in what goes into your own portfolios and we heard countless stories about bad experiences when using financial advisors. Phrases like ‘mansplaining’ and ‘complex jargon’ kept coming up.

Every platform currently out there says buying a house or going on a holiday is the goal when investing. Our Community revealed what is actually important — Financial Independence and understanding the values of the companies they invest in!

So let’s change the narrative

Financial independence is more than just being conservative with your spending. It’s about taking calculated risks to reach for something better. If we are to inspire young women then this message needs to change.

In recent years ‘run like a girl’ has gone from an insult to something aspirational, so why not aspire to #InvestLikeAGirl.

The Event

It‘s clear that having more women to look up to in our personal, professional and financial lives is still an outstanding issue. This events goal and future #ffld events will be to continue spotlighting these incredible role models.
